Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communicology
Requirements
Students must complete 33 credit hours, including:
- COMG 251, 301, 302, 364, 381
- COMG 370, 371 or 470
COMG 301 and 302 should be taken no later than the semester after the major is declared. In residence policy: A minimum of 15 credit hours, which includes COMG 302, must be taken in the Department of Communicology at UH Manoa. Introductory courses do not count as electives. Electives must have a prerequisite or be numbered 300 or above.
Notes:
1. Only 3 total credits of COMG 399 AND/OR COMG 499 may be used to fulfill students’ elective requirements and up to 3 total credits of COMG 453 may be applied to the Communicology degree. See Arts & Sciences advisers for more information about how additional credits (above the those applied to the Communicology major) may be applied to upper division General Education requirements.
2. The following classes will NOT count toward the major’s credit hours.
- COMG 151 Personal and Public Speech (3)
- COMG 170 Introduction to Nonverbal Communication (3)
- COMG 181 Introduction to Interpersonal Communication (3)
- COMG 185 Multicultural Communication Skills (3)
- COMG 200 Speaking Skills for Prospective Teachers (3)
3. In residence policy: A minimum of 15 credit hours, which includes COMG 302, must be taken in the Department of Communicology at UHM.
Minor in Communicology
Requirements
Students must complete 15 credit hours of Communicology, including:
- COMG 364 and 381
- COMG 370, 371 or 470
- 6 credit hours of non-introductory elective courses
- Introductory courses, COMG 399, and COMG 499 do not count toward the minor. Electives must have a prerequisite or be numbered 300 or above and cover a specific content area.
