I am contacting you all the way from down under in New Zealand. I am hoping you may be able to help me by sharing some information with some of your current Residents and recently qualified Psychiatrists. PeaceHealth (Posted 2/3/16)

Join a team of 4 physicians, 2 Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, 3 Licensed Clinical Social Workers, 2 Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Nurses and ancillary staff. Our team helps people in need of Psychiatric care in a healing and supportive environment. The Department provides a broad spectrum of care from the most acute inpatient to very highly functioning and very stable outpatients.

The Behavioral Health Inpatient Center is a 22-bed, state-of-the-art, inpatient unit located on the main campus of PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center. Eight of the beds are on our higher acuity, double locked, secure unit. The center is a state-designated evaluation and treatment center. We treat both voluntary and involuntary patients ages 18 and over with acute psychiatric and behavioral disturbances requiring the safety of a locked psychiatric unit. Our typical length of stay is 5-7 days but ranges widely.

In addition, our hospital-based Providers provide consultation and liaison services throughout the hospital, typically one case per day.

Outpatient services are provided on our Broadway campus (a short 2 minutes away from the hospital). “A Child’s Place”, located on the same campus, provides care for child and adolescent patients in a multi-disciplinary setting.

We also provide:
• Integrated behavioral health services in primary care;
• Opioid detoxification and treatment through a buprenorphine program;
• Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT);

Clinical services include:
• Medication management
• Milieu therapy (group therapy in a controlled environment)
• Nursing care
• Nutritional therapy
• Occupational therapy is available by referral to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Occupational Therapy Services
• Psychiatric assessment, evaluation and treatment
• History and physical taken by a physician
• Recreational therapy assessment and treatment
• Social work assessment and discharge planning

The psychiatrist role would be flexible depending on interests but at least some of the time (1/3 or so) will be hospital-based. It can be more if desired but not likely less. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in inpatient psychiatry (though not necessarily exclusively so), interest in or experience with ECT and suboxone therapy, and good teamwork skills so we can all divide the work equitably and in a way which leaves everyone satisfied. An interest in geriatric psychiatry is valued but not required. We are a very close group, we work well together through consensus, and we are very family-oriented and thus value protecting our time off.

If anyone has interest in discussing these opportunities further please contact Annette Fletcher at afletcher@peacehealth.org or 360-729-1478.

2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH Recruitment (Posted 2/3/16)

Dear Colleagues:

We are finalizing recruitment for our 2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH class and have one spot left! As you may know, this fellowship is modeled after Columbia’s Public Psychiatry Fellowship, with an additional mental health services research training component. This novel training approach was highlighted in Academic Psychiatry (Mangurian, et al., 2014). We have expanded our fellowship to 4 this year and would love for you to consider this opportunity!

This fellowship is notable for the tremendous networking opportunities for fellows interested in pursuing leadership roles in the public mental health care sector, especially for those residents interested in moving to the Bay Area. For example, both fellows in our first class (2011-2012) have already gone on to obtain significant leadership roles in San Francisco: 1) Medical Director of the UCSF Citywide Focus Clinic (one of the largest clinics serving people with severe mental illness in all of San Francisco) and 2) Medical Director of Behavioral Health Home Integration for the San Francisco County Community Behavioral Health Service.

We had a fantastic recruitment season for this current academic year (2015-2016) – see the bios below. This year we are also piloting the addition of having two auditors join our fellowship didactics and seminars. Since starting the program in 2011, we have the following outcomes: 1) Recruitment from excellent & diverse residency training programs, including UCSF, Columbia, NYU-Bellevue, Yale, University of Wisconsin, UCSD, Tulane, University of Nevada, Northeast Ohio Medical University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the San Mateo County Behavioral Health Residency Training Program (PGY-4 fast-track); 2) Recruitment of Chief Residents (40%, 6/15); and 3) Publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation of fellowship projects at national academic meetings (91%, 10/11). More details about the fellowship can be found on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/)

So…please consider applying to our fellowship– submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references (names/emails suffice) electronically on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/application-process). We accept applicants on a rolling basis.

Best wishes,
Melanie Thomas (UCSF PPF research supervisor and interim associate director)

Mercy Clinic – St. Louis, MO (Posted 1/27/16)

PeaceHealth – WA (Posted 1/21/16)

My name is Annette Fletcher with Workforce Planning/Provider Recruitment at PeaceHealth in the Pacific NW. If you are not the appropriate person to direct this email to, please let me know who I should connect with. I’m contacting you to share our Psychiatrist opportunities with your graduating Residents or alumni. Please distribute as you see fit and let me know if you have any questions/suggestions.

• Integrated behavioral health services in primary care;
• Opioid detoxification and treatment through a buprenorphine program;
• Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT);
