Madigan RTF Brochure (PDF)

Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft Lewis/Tacoma WA) is recruiting a civilian addiction psychiatrist for new Addictions Medicine Residential and IOP programs.

We will select a recent fellowship grad to work with a dynamic team treating active duty service members referred from the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Would you kindly pass this on to your graduating fellows with an invitation to call me, and reply to our medical recruiter Ms Roper for more information?

The position is advertised at https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/427633000

This generic ad mistakenly does not solicit the Addiction Psychiatrist we requested, and is listed only til Feb 5 (to be extended if no acceptable applicant is found).

The job is great, but a USAJOBS application can be daunting. We can advise serious applicants how to navigate the process. I welcome calls at 210-414-8419.

Thanks for training the next generation of addiction specialists, and for your help connecting them with challenging and rewarding careers.
Cordially,
Breck Lebegue

PeaceHealth (Posted 2/3/16)

Join a team of 4 physicians, 2 Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, 3 Licensed Clinical Social Workers, 2 Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Nurses and ancillary staff. Our team helps people in need of Psychiatric care in a healing and supportive environment. The Department provides a broad spectrum of care from the most acute inpatient to very highly functioning and very stable outpatients.

The Behavioral Health Inpatient Center is a 22-bed, state-of-the-art, inpatient unit located on the main campus of PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center. Eight of the beds are on our higher acuity, double locked, secure unit. The center is a state-designated evaluation and treatment center. We treat both voluntary and involuntary patients ages 18 and over with acute psychiatric and behavioral disturbances requiring the safety of a locked psychiatric unit. Our typical length of stay is 5-7 days but ranges widely.

In addition, our hospital-based Providers provide consultation and liaison services throughout the hospital, typically one case per day.

Outpatient services are provided on our Broadway campus (a short 2 minutes away from the hospital). “A Child’s Place”, located on the same campus, provides care for child and adolescent patients in a multi-disciplinary setting.

We also provide:
• Integrated behavioral health services in primary care;
• Opioid detoxification and treatment through a buprenorphine program;
• Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT);

Clinical services include:
• Medication management
• Milieu therapy (group therapy in a controlled environment)
• Nursing care
• Nutritional therapy
• Occupational therapy is available by referral to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Occupational Therapy Services
• Psychiatric assessment, evaluation and treatment
• History and physical taken by a physician
• Recreational therapy assessment and treatment
• Social work assessment and discharge planning

The psychiatrist role would be flexible depending on interests but at least some of the time (1/3 or so) will be hospital-based. It can be more if desired but not likely less. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in inpatient psychiatry (though not necessarily exclusively so), interest in or experience with ECT and suboxone therapy, and good teamwork skills so we can all divide the work equitably and in a way which leaves everyone satisfied. An interest in geriatric psychiatry is valued but not required. We are a very close group, we work well together through consensus, and we are very family-oriented and thus value protecting our time off.

If anyone has interest in discussing these opportunities further please contact Annette Fletcher at afletcher@peacehealth.org or 360-729-1478.

2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH Recruitment (Posted 2/3/16)

Dear Colleagues:

We are finalizing recruitment for our 2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH class and have one spot left! As you may know, this fellowship is modeled after Columbia’s Public Psychiatry Fellowship, with an additional mental health services research training component. This novel training approach was highlighted in Academic Psychiatry (Mangurian, et al., 2014). We have expanded our fellowship to 4 this year and would love for you to consider this opportunity!

This fellowship is notable for the tremendous networking opportunities for fellows interested in pursuing leadership roles in the public mental health care sector, especially for those residents interested in moving to the Bay Area. For example, both fellows in our first class (2011-2012) have already gone on to obtain significant leadership roles in San Francisco: 1) Medical Director of the UCSF Citywide Focus Clinic (one of the largest clinics serving people with severe mental illness in all of San Francisco) and 2) Medical Director of Behavioral Health Home Integration for the San Francisco County Community Behavioral Health Service.

We had a fantastic recruitment season for this current academic year (2015-2016) – see the bios below. This year we are also piloting the addition of having two auditors join our fellowship didactics and seminars. Since starting the program in 2011, we have the following outcomes: 1) Recruitment from excellent & diverse residency training programs, including UCSF, Columbia, NYU-Bellevue, Yale, University of Wisconsin, UCSD, Tulane, University of Nevada, Northeast Ohio Medical University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the San Mateo County Behavioral Health Residency Training Program (PGY-4 fast-track); 2) Recruitment of Chief Residents (40%, 6/15); and 3) Publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation of fellowship projects at national academic meetings (91%, 10/11). More details about the fellowship can be found on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/)

So…please consider applying to our fellowship– submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references (names/emails suffice) electronically on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/application-process). We accept applicants on a rolling basis.

Best wishes,
Melanie Thomas (UCSF PPF research supervisor and interim associate director)

JSA Health Telepsychiatry – Houston, TX (Posted 12/1/15)

I wanted to invite your graduating PGY-4 residents (as well as PGY-3s departing for child fellowship) to consider employment opportunities with JSA Health Telepsychiatry.
We are a telepsychiatry company based out of Houston, Texas. Currently, we see patients all across Texas in various settings: extended observation units, crisis residential units, general hospital emergency rooms and floor units, outpatient psychiatric clinics, school-based clinic, and jail-based clinics. As telepsychiatry is an innovative way for the many rural parts of the state to quickly get much-needed access to psychiatrists, we continue to rapidly expand. As such, we always have new opportunities for psychiatrists seeking full-time or part-time employment, or even just moonlighting opportunities*…all from the comfort of one’s own home!
We have found that combining telepsychiatry with a different time zone allows us to cover our after-hours needs without having our patient seen by psychiatrists who have been working for 16 hours straight. Many of our overnight shifts are covered by Texas-licensed doctors living in England, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Therefore, we are specifically reaching out to doctors in Hawaii as a way to adequately cover our afternoon/evening shifts (a doctor working in Hawaii from 9a-6p could help evaluate our patients in Texas from 1-10p).
Please share my e-mail address (gperez-garcia@jsahealthmd.com) with any residents that have more questions about this.

Thanks for your time!
Gonzalo Perez-Garcia, M.D.

*Of note, moonlighters must be board-eligible to work for JSA, so we unfortunately cannot extend to this opportunity to residents who have their full medical license, but not yet graduated.

The Permanente Medical Group, Inc – CA (Posted 10/26/15)

This letter provides information about our clinics and practices in the California Central Valley cities of Stockton, Modesto and Fresno, California. Other opportunities in Northern California can be found on our website at http://physiciancareers-ncal.kp.org.

The Permanente Medical Group in Northern California is in a highly successful partnership with the not-for-profit Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Hospitals. Our Group of over seven thousand Physician Shareholders cares for more than three million members throughout Northern California.

As the cities of Fresno, Modesto and Stockton experience population growth, our membership enrollment is souring and we need additional Adult and Child Psychiatrists in these thriving communities. Each outpatient psychiatry position is for 40-hours a week including some administrative time. Our EPIC EMR allows cross specialty access to patient medical records and easy collaboration with primary care physicians and other specialists. Day-to-day, new patients are scheduled in the AM and PM for one hour visits with return appointments for 30-minutes. Psychiatrists rotate 2nd call responsibilities approximately every 8-10 weeks. At each of our locations, the Mental Health teams consist of adult and child psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, chemical dependency counselors and marriage counselors.

Physicians choose to live and work in the Central Valley because it is very affordable and it offers a quality lifestyle that cannot be found in most metropolitan and many suburban areas. You can live minutes from our offices and clinics and you will not spend hours of road time stuck in a car commuting to work. Community activities include an ongoing calendar of athletic and community events, theater, shopping malls, public and private schools, local universities, and a wide range of gastronomic venues. Mild weather allows for all-year hiking, biking, watersports, skiing and photography are nearby at numerous lakes, rivers and National Parks. Each of our Central Valley locations are between 1.5 and 3-hour drive to San Francisco or Los Angeles with typical home prices 50-60% less than what you might pay for a comparable home in the S.F. Bay area.

TPMG provides unparalleled security, stability, a highly competitive salary and an extraordinary benefits package. Our loans are forgiven in three equal parts at completion of 5th, 6th and 7th years and are funded when a physician starts work at TPMG. The loans are to $170,000 in the Central Valley for recent residency and fellowship grads and are offered at the discretion of the PIC. These loans may be used for education debts or other purchases or investments. We also provide retirement contributions, health insurance, forgivable first home purchase loans and more. You may also be elected to shareholder status within three years.

This letter is only a snapshot of who we are and what we offer. If you or a colleague are interested in more information about these and other TPMG positions I encourage you to contact me via email or on my direct telephone line.

UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship for PGY-4s (Posted 9/24/15)

We are beginning to recruit for our 2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH class! As you may know, this fellowship is modeled after Columbia’s Public Psychiatry Fellowship, with an additional mental health services research training component. This novel training approach was highlighted in Academic Psychiatry (Mangurian, et al., 2014). We have expanded our fellowship to 4 this year and would love a UHawaii resident!

Outpatient Adult Psychiatrist – Watson Clinic LLP, Lakeland, FL (Posted 9/2/15)

Psychiatry Resident/Fellow – Midwest Neurology Associates, IN (Posted 8/28/15)

The Permanente Medical Group, Northern California (Posted 8/28/15)

Greetings from Northern California August 21, 2015:

My name is Ken Baker and I am a Sr. Physician Recruiter with The Permanente Medical Group in Northern California. TPMG is a highly successful partnership with the not-for-profit Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Hospitals and our Group of over seven thousand Physician Shareholders cares for more than three million members throughout Northern California.

I specialize in exchanging information with Psychiatrists about our clinics and practices in the California Central Valley cities of Stockton, Modesto and Fresno, California. The Group also has other opportunities in Northern California which can be found on our website at http://physiciancareers-ncal.kp.org.

The cities of Fresno, Modesto and Stockton are experiencing population growth and increases in Kaiser Permanente enrollment. As a result, we need additional Adult and Child Psychiatrists in these thriving communities. The outpatient psychiatry positions are for 40-hour weeks which include some administrative time. Our modified EPIC software allows cross specialty to patient medical records and easy collaboration with primary care physicians and other specialists. Day-to-day, new patients are scheduled in the AM and PM for one hour visits with return appointments for 30-minutes. Psychiatrist rotate 2nd call responsibilities approximately every 8-10 weeks.

Home prices for new homes and acreage are typically 50-60% less than what you might pay for a comparable home in the S.F. Bay area.

By living only minutes from our offices and clinics you will not spend hours of road time stuck in a car commuting to work. And, in each community there are numerous community activities, theater, sporting events, museums, fashion malls, schools and universities, theater and gastronomic venues. Hiking, biking, watersports, skiing and photography are nearby with lakes, rivers and National Parks. Each of our Central Valley locations are between 1.5 and 3-hour drive to San Francisco or Los Angeles.

TPMG provides unparalleled security, stability, a highly competitive salary and an extraordinary benefits package. Our forgivable loans may be used for education debts or other purchases or investments. We also provide retirement contributions, health insurance, first home purchase loans and more. You may also be elected to shareholder status within three years.

This letter is only a snapshot of who we are and what we offer. If you or a colleague are interested in more information about these and other TPMG positions I encourage you to contact me via email or on my direct telephone line.

Public Psychiatry Fellowship – UCSF (Posted 8/28/15)

Dear colleagues,

We are beginning to recruit for our 2016-2017 UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at SFGH class! As you may know, this fellowship is modeled after Columbia’s Public Psychiatry Fellowship, with an additional mental health services research training component. This novel training approach was highlighted in Academic Psychiatry (Mangurian, et al., 2014)

We had a fantastic recruitment season for this current academic year (2015-2016) – click here for the bios. Louis, and the San Mateo County Behavioral Health RTP; 2) Recruitment of Chief Residents (40%, 6/15); and 3) Publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation of fellowship projects at national academic meetings (91%, 10/11). More details about the fellowship can be found on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/)

So…if you know of any other PGY-4 residents who might be interested in public psychiatry and/or moving to the Bay Area, please forward this e-mail to them and have them submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references (names/emails suffice) electronically on our website (http://ppf.ucsf.edu/application-process). We accept applicants on a rolling basis.
Best wishes,
Christina

UCSF HEAL Initiative Global Health Fellowship (Posted 8/6/15)

Dear Residency Leadership,

UCSF is excited to accept applications to the HEAL Initiative, an innovative two-year post-residency global health fellowship dedicated to equipping physicians with the knowledge and expertise needed to effectively serve in resource limited settings, both internationally and in the U.S.

With our many years of experience working in resource limited settings, we built the HEAL Initiative with three core commitments:

1) To support local health professional capacity.
2) To equip American health professionals with a deep understanding of the local context as well as the clinical and non-clinical skills to truly improve care.
3) To facilitate relationships between individuals and health care organizations that are reciprocal, long-term and equitable.

Through the HEAL Initiative, we are linking together health professionals dedicated to serving their community and to learning from others like them all around the world. This year’s cohort of 22 fellows are working in underserved sites in the U.S. such as Navajo Nation and international sites such as Haiti, India, Liberia, Malawi, Mexico, and Nepal. In addition to an online Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, our fellows will come away with a set of robust and versatile skills essential to improving the delivery of health care around the world.

Our goal is to provide the next generation of global health physicians with the training program we wish we ourselves had gone through. We are looking to spread the word of our fellowship and to invite final year residents passionate about health equity to apply for our program beginning in July 2016.

Please let us know if there is sometime this summer or fall, perhaps during a noon conference or morning report, when we could arrange to come and talk to your residents about what the HEAL Initiative has to offer. Please contact info@healinitiative.org to schedule a visit.

Interested residents may also join us for a live online information session. Current scheduled dates:

01 AUG 2015 HEAL Initiative Information Session (12:00 PM PDT – 1:00 PM PDT)
12 AUG 2015 HEAL Initiative Information Session (9:00 PM PDT – 10:00 PM PDT)
29 AUG 2015 HEAL Initiative Information Session (12:00 PM PDT – 1:00 PM PDT)

We look forward to hearing from you!

The jewel of the city is the River Walk, which meanders through the downtown area. Lined with numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as the Arneson River Theater, this attraction is transformed into an impressive festival of lights during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, and is suffused with the local sounds of folk lorico and flamenco music during the summer, particularly during celebrations such as the Fiesta Noche del Rio. Also based along the River Walk is the newly restored Aztec On The River, the only surviving exotic-themed movie palace in Texas.

The Alamo, located nearby, is Texas’ top tourist attraction, while the River Walk is the second most visited attraction. SeaWorld, located 16 miles (26 km) west of downtown, is the number 3 attraction. Also, there is the very popular Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Morgan’s Wonderland is a theme park for special needs children.

The downtown area also features Cathedral of San Fernando, The Majestic Theatre, HemisFair Park (home of the Tower of the Americas and the Institute of Texan Cultures), La Villita, El Mercado, the Spanish Governor’s Palace, and the historic Menger Hotel. On the northern side of the Alamo complex, beside the Emily Morgan Hotel, is the San Antonio Cavalry Museum, which features cavalry artifacts and exhibits and is frequented by local re-enactors.

It is within this community that this Expanding Hospital System are looking to attract additional psychiatrists to their community. Multiple identified locations within the hospitals service area. Full income support from the hospital includes performance bonus, full and comprehensive benefits including malpractice.
