Innovative Classrooms

Learning environments which are designed to increase student engagement and are equipped with the technology necessary to enhance content improves teaching and learning (Van Horne, Murniati, Gaffney, & Jesse, 2012). Innovative classrooms respond to the logistical challenges of using integrated pedagogical methods by applying philosophy to space via furniture placement, podium design, and by making collaborative-based technology more accessible to faculty and students. The emphasis is on social engagement, so another component is plenty of white board space and conference tables.

The Center for Teaching Excellence provides individualized orientations for faculty interested in teaching in Webster 101. The consultations offer pragmatic solutions and suggestions for integrating technology in ways that enhance a faculty members teaching styles and course content. CTE also schedules extremely helpful faculty focus groups and panels of colleagues who meet, discuss, and share strategies and solutions they have developed while teaching in the classroom.
