The HawCC website has a new look! Our new website was launched in early February. Kudos to our web developer Daniel Fernandez for the new design. You’ll find that it’s user-friendly and easy to navigate.
West Hawai‘i Campus at Palamanui – The university signed an agreement on November 19, 2010, that cleared the way for construction of the long-awaited Hawai‘i Community College at Palamanui. The campus site is about one mile mauka of the Kona International Airport. The official blessing/dedication of the midlevel road that will connect the campus site with Kaiminani Drive is scheduled for March 18. This means that we are one step closer to realizing one of the most energy-efficient college campuses in the United States that will provide educational opportunities to one of the state’s most underserved areas.
The HawCC Protocols Committee under the direction of Dr. Taupouri Tangaro and representatives from UH Hilo conducted an exceptional Kipaepae/Wahipana for President Greenwood on February 3. HawCC and UHH ‘ohana gathered at the Liliuokalani Park outlook to welcome the president to our island community. Mahalo to Tangaro, Gail Makuakane-Lundin and the HawCC Kauhale.
Vice President John Morton has requested a kipaepae for our Achieving the Dream national and state coaches Bernadine Fong, Carol Lincoln and Bill Piland who will be conducting a training class for our HawCC AtD Core Team on March 10. We’ll be sending a web-bulletin with the details.
Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry – HawCC has been a direct beneficiary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s A Taste of Hilo fundraising event for 12 years. Last year the JCC&IH donated $6,000 of which $4,000 was expended towards student scholarships and $2,000 in college-wide benefits. At a luncheon on February 17, 2011, the JCC&IH generously donated $10,000 to support our student scholarship program and college-wide services. This office will be sending the Request for Proposals for College-wide Benefits very shortly.
