Since 1998, the Hawaii Community College website has served dual purposes as a public website servicing students and the community, and as an internal site with data related to faculty and staff needs.
With the launch of our website redesign in 2011 — and as we continued to complete web development projects — the need for a private site was essential for future projects and to simplify the storage, sorting, and retrieval of confidential documentation.
Over the summer, we began research and construction of a secure, private website (intranet) for the college. Right now the intranet project is still in beta (testing) status and can be accessed at https://intranet.hawaii.hawaii.edu
Access to the intranet is available to Hawaii.edu users that are affiliated with our campus.
Once logged in, users will have access to the first set of available modules:
- Group Pages – Simple informational pages for units, departments, committees, etc that are managed by a designated group admin.
- User Directory – A complete A to Z faculty and staff listing that is entirely managed by each user.
- File Depot – A file management system that will simplify access to college documentation and will allow designated users to upload and edit files and folders.
- Event Calendar, Notices, and Discussion Forum.
As stated earlier, the intranet project is still in beta status with a few key modules deployed. As we progress and add more content and user traffic increases, a needs assessment will be done to determine necessary upgrades to improve the intranet’s performance and features.
