Alyssa Tokumura, who graduated from Hawaii Community College with honors, got a special mention recently in StarChefs.com, on online magazine targeted toward culinary insiders.
Tokumura graduated from the Culinary Arts Program at HawCC’s West Hawaii campus in Kealakekua in 2011 and soon began working at the restaurant Chef Mavro in Honolulu.
The article focuses on the staff meals at Chef Mavro, with one of Tokumura’s creations getting a nod for “Favorite Staff Meal.”

James Lightner, assistant professor in the HawCC Hospitality Division, added that Tokumura was the recipient of a prestigious scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley.
“We are proud of Alyssa’s accomplishments,” Lightner said via email.
