Numerous Hawai‘i Community College Culinary Arts students and instructors from West Hawai‘i were honored during an annual event held January 28 by the American Culinary Federation Kona Kohala Chefs Association.
Three HawCC students received ACF Jr. Chef Awards. Sam Varron was named Student Chef of the Year, and Danielle Drye and Kennocha Berhane were voted Student Members of the Year.
Patti Kimball, a culinary lecturer, was named Chef of the Year and Member of the Year.
Presidential Medallion service awards were given to HawCC Culinary faculty Paul Heerlein and Betty Saiki; retired HawCC Culinary faculty Jean Hull; and HawCC Hospitality Division Chair James Lightner.
