Haʻakūmalae announcements

Haʻakūmalae is the official orchestration of Hawaiʻ i protocols leadership at Hawaiʻ i Community College and the University of Hawaiʻ i at Hilo’s Kīpuka Native Hawaiian Student Center. As an active member in our Hawaiʻi Community College and Hawaiʻi Island Community there are many opportunities and events for engagement in these activities.

  • Week of April 1-6, 2013

Merrie Monarch Festival 50th Anniversary

This year commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festical held annually in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. Throughout the first week of April 2013 Haʻakūmalae participation at events included theMerrie Monarh Festivals opening ceremony at Afook Chinen Civic center on April 1, 2013; an Unukupukupu & Akaunu hula performance on Tuesday afternoon at the Naniloa Hotel; and cultural & economical support of vendors, dancers and hālau.

Kīpaepae Welina for Athabascan Elder Mr. Howard Luke & Maureen Luke

We warmly invite you to a Kīpaepae Welina on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 for the welcoming of Athabascan Elder Mr. Howard Luke and his daughter Maureen Luke to Hawaiʻi and our campus. The arrival of this elder and his daughter is a life long dream of his that he was inspired to pursue upon a recent visit of our HawCC faculty, staff & students on a Pāmaomao visit to Alaska during the month of May in 2012.

Kīpaepae: Student Recognition Ceremony Spring 2013

At the Student recognition Ceremony a kīpaepae will commence to welcome and affirm our students in their dedication and their hard work through the year as they are recognized in their achievements. Please join us on the evening of Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the UH Hilo Cafeteria at 6:00pm to lend your hands, breath and voice to the kīpaepae proceedings.

Hawaiʻi Community College Annual Model Home Blessing 2013

ATE: Applied Technical Education student construction.

A ceremony to open and bless the annual model home. This home is constructed as a culmination of the ATE program students & instructors’ skills and learning in conjunction with DHHL as an opportunity to gain valuable experience through contributions to our local community.

Hawaiʻi Community College Commencement    Hilo, Hawaiʻi

The Edith Kanakaʻole Multi-Purpose Stadium plays host to commencement activities as it has for numerous years. Please join us in the honoring of our graduates by bearing witness at this years commencement. Please come and lend your voice, energy and presence to the evening.

West Hawaiʻi Commencement   Waikoloa, Hawaiʻi

West Hawaiʻi Commencement activities for this 2012-2013 Academic School year will occur at the Hilton Waikoloa. A bus will be available to transport our faculty and staff from the Manono Campus to participate in this event for our West Hawaiʻi constituents. En route the sacred wahi pana (pulsing places) of the journey will be shared and an orientation and instruction in the W. Hawaiʻi campus song, “Nāʻū e Pālamanui” will be shared. Please join us and share in the celebration of this yearʻs graduates of West Hawaiʻi. More information will be forth coming.
