Welcome back to campus for the 2013-2014 academic year!
As of the first week of instruction, HawCC’s enrollment was at 3,454 students, down from 3,681 (-6.2%) compared to last year. The UHCC’s enrollment for Fall 2013 has decreased 3.7% compared to Fall 2012.
We expect the official numbers to be released by the UH system within the next few weeks.
ACCJC FOLLOW UP REPORT
During the summer, our accreditation liaison officer, Erik Kalani Flores, with the assistance of Kate Sims, drafted the Accreditation Follow-Up Report. The report has been posted at <https://login.its.hawaii.edu/cas/login service=http%3A%2F%2Fintranet.hawaii.hawaii.edu>
We welcome you to submit your comments by September 3 at: http://hawaii.hawaii.edu/accreditation/comments.php>
The UH Foundation will once again be launching a giving campaign and asking faculty, staff and the community to donate to the college to support our initiatives.
Over the next three months, you will receive a solicitation letter supported by a calling campaign by the UH Foundation. We would greatly appreciate your support!
In July, HawCC invited two finalists for the director position at the UH Center at West Hawai‘i. The college conducted open forum meetings for each of the candidates with faculty, staff, students and members of the community as well as UH Hilo. The search was unsuccessful due to various reasons. We are, therefore, resuming the search.
During the interim, our HawCC administrators will be providing administrative coverage at the West Hawai‘i campus until a permanent director is hired.
ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN FOR PĀLAMANUI
Dr. Jay Siegel conducted presentations at the West Hawai‘i campus on August 21 and 29. In East Hawai‘i, Dr. Siegel presented on August 22 and 28. Dr. Siegel’s powerpoint presentation for the Academic Master Plan for Palamanui can be found on our website at: http://hawaii.hawaii.edu/docs/palamanui_academic_master_plan.pdf.
AGREE TO DEGREE
During the first week of school, we launched the Agree to Degree initiative in an attempt to boost the graduation and retention rates at HawCC. About 400 students signed the Agree to Degree pledge, committing to graduating with their degrees and/or certificates.
About 120 faculty and staff signed the pledge so far, reaffirming their commitment to student success.
I encourage all faculty and staff to sign the pledge to assist our students achieve their goals.
Please contact Thatcher Moats at firstname.lastname@example.org or 934-2506 for more information.
HawCC and UHCC administrators met with the House Finance Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee during the summer to discuss the needs of the college. Visits were conducted at the Pālamanui site in West Hawai‘i and at the HawCC Manono campus.
