The ACF Kona Kohala Junior Chef’s (in above photo) are all dressed up for the President’s Ball at the ACF National Convention, July 21-25, 2013. They mingled with Chefs, Cooks and Purveyors. Hands-on educational sessions, seminars, demonstrations, and workshops on the latest trends and techniques were available for these recent graduates of our HawCC-WH Culinary Program. As President Michael Ty stated, “ …numerous opportunities to enhance your culinary skills and develop a better understanding of what it takes to excel as a chef in the 21st century were presented over this five day convention.”
It seemed that watching the ACF regional winners vying for national titles and the six teams from colleges and universities who competed for the ACF National Championship was a highlight of the Convention for many of the Jr. Chefs.
To raise the funds to attend this convention, bake sales were held, car washes and donations were received. The Junior Chef President, Sam Varron, and Vice-President’s, Kevin Castillo, expenses were paid for by the ACF Kona Kohala Chefs Association as a continuing education scholarship award.
