Business Technology students visit mayor’s office

Hawai’i Community College Business Technology students enrolled in BUSN 292, Integrated Office Procedures recently visited Mayor Billy Kenoi’s office to learn about the structure of Hawai’i County Government and the part administrative professionals play in helping government run smoothly. The mayor shared information about the journey from his youth to his current position as our mayor.

Char Shigemura, Executive Assistant to the mayor, gave students a tour of the county building and shared information about the different departments and how they work together to meet the needs of the community. She also shared information about the skills, knowledge, and aptitudes expected of administrative professionals.

Student Natasha Quiocho states, “It was such an honor to have the opportunity to go to the mayor’s office. I thought it was very informative and interesting. I always wondered what it was like to work for the Mayor and from listening to Char Shigemura it sounds like a lot of fun. Everyone there in the office is so nice and you never get of tired listening to Mayor Kenoi. He is wonderful.”
