Haʻakūmalae is the official orchestration of the Hawaiʻ i protocols leadership at Hawaiʻ i Community College and the University of Hawaiʻ i at Hilo. As an active member at our Hawaiʻi Community College and in the Hawaiʻi Island Community there are many opportunities and events for engagement in these activities.

- July 2-9, 2014
A group of faculty, staff, and students from Hawaiʻi Community College traveled as official envoys of Hawaiian culture and protocols to Yurihama, Japan this summer. While participating in many facets of the town’s Annual Hawaiian Festival Showcase, the group appeared in several performances and conducted multiple workshops related to Hawaiian culture through hula, music and hana noʻeau. Other highlights included a visit with the local Elementary School of Tomari to exchange with local students and a night of cultural sharing with the local townfolk of Yurihama.

An invitation for cultural exchange within Kamakura, Japan was sponsored by a request from the 14th Anniversary Hōʻike of Hālau Hula O Nā Kamaliʻi O Ka Lā. In addition to appearing this Hōʻike, the group of faculty, staff, graduates, and students from HawCC, conducted workshops on Hawaiian culture, met with community learners, and reconnected with Hawaiʻi Community College alumnae of the area. Related to the event, the group also visited with area residents as well as shrine & temple communities providing numerous opportunities to interact with the local, indigenous community.

Haskell Indian Nations University – HawCC Campus Visit
A group of close to two dozen students and staff visited Hawaiʻi island for a week and started their experience with a visit to the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College. This group was on a summer experience that has taken them from Kansas to Hawaiʻi for a few weeks to share in cultural and environmental science immersion.
