Haʻakūmalae Events

Haʻakūmalae is the official orchestration of the Hawaiʻi protocols leadership at Hawaiʻi Community College and the University of Hawaiʻ i at Hilo. As an active member at our Hawaiʻi Community College and in the Hawaiʻi Island Community there are many opportunities and events for engagement in these activities.

Taga Exhibit Opening

An event in celebration of TAGA Ritual Cord Wear inspired by cord pāʻū  & Kōkōpuʻupuʻu, knot culture of Hawaiʻi, had its official debut. The exhibit as displayed in Piʻopiʻo Hale (Bldg 389A Rm 101) was a collaborative process formed through years of sharing and experience of Kealiʻi Reichel and Taupōuri Tangarō; a process enhanced by the photography of Kauilanuimākēhāikalani Kealiʻikankakaʻoleohaililani.

Wahi Pana O Hilo aims to orient you as the individual in relation to our Hilo community, amongst our sacred

geographies, and alongside faculty, staff, and students from Hawaiʻi Community College and the University of

Hawaiʻi at Hilo. Wahi pana are pulsing spaces that share in the rich heritage and stories of a regional area. We enjoyed sharing this experience with you.

Hilo & Pahoa high school complex principals gathered at the Hawaiʻi Community College for an “Aha Kukakuka on Student Success” (meeting/discussion) as led by HawCC VCSA Jason Cifra. Invited guests included the State of Hawaii Doe Hilo and Pahoa administrators, principals and key faculty & staff.

Kīpaepae Welina – Hakipuʻu Learning Center PCS

Hakipuʻu Learning Center PCS of Kaneʻohe,Oʻahu visited the Hawaiʻi Community campus on this day to get a better look at our college and the experience we provide for our Community College students. A group of 15 students (high school Juniors & Seniors) and their chaperones were greeted and spent the day visiting the programs of both HawCC and UH Hilo.

A unique opportunity to experience the pulsing places of Kona as rooted in the cultural myth and history. Wahi Pana O Kona aims to orient individuals to our Kona community amongst our sacred geographies, alongside faculty, staff, and students from the University of Hawaiʻi Center at West Hawaiʻi.

Pāmaomao Training – Great Lakes Cosmogeny

Pāmaomao is an active a commitment to a protocols based travel experience thru connections with indigenous cultures. As done by way of the Hawaiʻi protocols traditions of community spiritual bridging this experience requires continued building on current foundations that culminates in a journey of the group to another indigenous community outside of Hawaiʻi.
