To be successful in the New Faculty Orientation Course you will need to become familiar with these technologies and applications. Take some time to set up accounts and familiarize yourself with the online services and download the necessary plugins.

UH Account

Your UH account is a passkey to most online services offered through UH. This UH username will also be part of your UH email address: username@hawaii.edu.


You can use a mail client such as Thunderbird or Outlook to access your email or you can use the UH WebMail online interface at: https://mail.google.com/a/hawaii.edu  Note that UH uses Gmail. UH’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides information on Google applications and Gmail in the UH System.


Laulima is the UH system course management tool. Students and instructors use Laulima as the online presence for courses. In the New Faculty Orientation Course, you will use Laulima as your home base for all information related to the course. Log in with your UH username and password.

Acrobat Reader

Acrobat reader allows you to view PDF files. It is a free download.

Technology Support

Generally, the first point of contact for technology assistance for COE faculty is the COE technology support office, which can be accessed by logging into the COE Intranet.  If the technology issue involves UHM technology, you may be directed to The UH Information & Technology Services (ITS) help desk.  Note that ITS has many resources and information available on its website.
