This is the home page for the COE website.  The website includes a wide range of information about the college (faculty, programs, governance, initiatives, news, admissions procedures, etc.), as well as, the COE Intranet for Faculty and Staff and profiles on each faculty member.

COE Faculty Profiles
Please create your faculty profile by completing any missing information on your profile page (Login using your UH ID and password). If your name is missing from the profile page, please contact the COE Webmaster, KC Coburn, to have your name added.

This access point to he UHM COE website provides links to department and program information, as well as, resources for technology support, e-travel, and numerous important policies relevant to faculty work. Note that the COE Intranet can be accessed from the public UHM COE website through the “Faculty Log In” near the bottom right corner of the page.

Research Units

Center for Disability Studies
CDS conducts a wide range of education, research, and service activities in collaboration with other disciplines. Core activities consist of education, interdisciplinary training, and technical assistance; community and university service; and research, dissemination, and evaluation. These activities are carried out under five initiative areas: School and Community Inclusion; Special Health Needs; Transition, Postsecondary Education, and Employment; Mental Health; and Pacific Outreach.
Curriculum Research & Development Group
CRDG brings together teams from over 100 classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, educational designers, content scholars, editors, evaluators, media specialists, publishers, and staff developers to research and create innovative and effective solutions to today’s educational problems. Expert teams draw upon our own experience as well as the relevant research and expertise of others to create effective, award winning programs for grades K–12.

COE Faculty Congress & Senate
COE Congress & Senate provide an opportunity for shared, collegial governance for the College of Education and function as a forum for professional discourse and consideration of policies which have College-wide concerns and relate directly to the educational process.

Dean’s Council
Consists of Department chairs and COE administration members.  Council meets twice monthly to discuss COE business.

Policies & Procedures


All professional and personal travel during on-duty periods is subject to UHM policies and procedures that involve timelines, approvals, and paperwork.  Note that the on-duty period for 9-month tenure track faculty generally begins the Monday prior to the first day of instruction in Fall Semester and ends the day of Spring commencement (usually the Sunday following final exams week).  This on-duty period is fully inclusive; that is, it includes weekends, non-instructional days, holidays, winter break, and spring break.  A detailed listing of these policies and procedures are provided in the Travel section of this website.


Faculty are eligible for a variety of paid and unpaid leaves including sabbatical, professional improvement, sick and family leaves and are covered by Articles V and VI of the 2001-2003 Agreement between the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly and the Board of Regent. Faculty should contact the Personnel Officer in their Dean’s office for more information.

UHM COE Technology Policies and Procedures

File Formats
The COE has standardized on two file formats for official COE business: Open Document Format (.odt, .ods, .odp) and/or MS Office 2003 (.doc, .xls, .ppt)

COE adheres to a life-cycle funding program, replacing computers on a 4-year rotation. New systems are configured with a set of standard software, including MS Office and OpenOffice, and delivered to destination offices. COE uses a laptop loan pool for Grad Assistant and other temporary staff computers

COE Technology and Distance Programs (TDP)
TDP offers a range of workshops, tutorials and individual assistance with technology integration.

COE Strategic Plan 2011-2016
This is the the College of Education’s Strategic Plan for 2011-2016.  Each unit/department within the College has a related document indicating how that unit/department will address the goals of the College’s strategic plan.
