Public Lecture by Prof. Masayuki Dana on kafu

A public Lecture by Prof. Masayuki Dana on kafu–an overview of Okinawan genealogy and examination of the Uchima Family lineage documents housed in the Sakamaki/Hawley Collection will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017, in Room 301 in Hamilton Library at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

Prof. Masayuki Dana is a former professor at Okinawa International University, and an expert on Ryukyuan history, especially kafu, Okinawan genealogy. He will explains the characteristics of Okinawan kafu (lineage documents), and history of kafu in the Ryukyu Kingdom. Prof. Dana also shows the connection between the Uchima family’s kafu and the development of kafu creation in the history of the Ryukyus.

Lecture will be delivered in Japanese. Translation will be provided.

Those who plan to attend the lecture, please note that Hamilton Library does not allow to bring beverages and food inside the library. However, beverages with a cap/lid (such as bottled water, travel mug with a lid) are allowed to bring in.

Pay-to-Park
Visitors parking on Upper Campus between 6:30 am and 4:00 pm must park in the green Pay-to-Park stalls. Payment is made at the automated Pay Stations located near the stalls in each lot. These Pay Stations accept credit cards (MasterCard and Visa) and cash (quarters, dollar coins, $1, $5, and $10 bills – exact change only). No refunds are issued for these machines. Pre-paid parking may be purchased at $2.00 per half-hour increments; however, in an effort to create more available spaces, parking is limited to a 3-hour maximum before 4:00 pm on weekdays.

While parked, please display on the dashboard of your vehicle the permit ticket issued from the Pay Station. Make sure the expiration time is visible through the windshield.

The purchase of a Pay-to-Park daily visitor permit from an automated Pay Station will allow parking and re-entry into any visitor lot on campus for the entire unexpired time.
