Student Spotlight VII: Nikki Walsh
Category : Nikki Walsh
Penn State junior Nikki Walsh is a kinesiology major from Souderton, PA. She heard about the ASH program from a friend who attended UH through National Student Exchange. Nikki and her friend are now sharing an apartment in Honolulu and having lots of good times.
Nikki is a sports fan and follows the Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies, Eagles, and, of course, the Penn State Nittany Lions. While here in Hawai‘i, she remains a long-distance sports fan while her time is shared with other pursuits. Besides taking classes in “History of the Hawaiian Islands”, “Theater – Intro to Acting”, “Sports Biomechanics” and “Nutrition in Sport and Exercise”, she’s been hiking (recently conquering Koko Head Crater), snorkeling, and beach going. Check out her recent blog about an excursion to Lanikai (http://blog.hawaii.edu/paradise/2011/01/pillbox-hiki-in-lanikai/). By the way, Nikki recommends Boots and Kimo’s in Kailua for macadamia nut pancakes! Over Spring Break she and her parents spent at week on Kauai and enjoyed many adventures, including a helicopter tour, a catamaran to Ni‘ihau (the “Forbidden Island”), a visit to Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of Hawai‘i), and a hike along the spectacular Na Pali Coast.
Her future goal is to attend Physicians Assistant School, after which she may return to Honolulu for work because “here in Hawai‘i the weather is gorgeous, and I’m happier than ever!”
