MAO Farms visit

It was a great pleasure to join UH West Oʻahu Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Linda Randall for a visit to MAʻO Organic Farms summer Ramp Up program.

The two-and-a-half year program serves Waiʻanae youth who are working to earn a spot in the Youth Leadership Training Program. The program involves full-time attendance at Leeward Community College and 20 hours of work per week on the farm.

In exchange for this work, the students receive a full-tuition scholarship at Leeward CC and a starting stipend of $500 a month. Many of the students are the first in their family to attend college.
