Kapiʻolani Community College’s Culinary Institute of the Pacific held its 16th annual Hoʻokipa fundraiser at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Friday night, March 8. The fundraiser is a chance for Kapiʻolani to showcase its 300 students and their extraordinary culinary talents.
We were honored to have Governor Neil Abercrombie and First Lady Nancie Caraway join us to celebrate the highly successful program and its students. The governor reiterated his strong support of and love for the University of Hawaiʻi, his alma mater. It is a special pleasure to have him in our court!
The governor and first lady joined hundreds of others at the sold out gala, which included food stations that featured creations from various culinary arts lab classes.
Kapiʻolani alum Bobby Sohns was this year’s featured guest chef. He is now the assistant pastry chef at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
