The Second Language Studies Student Association (SLSSA) invites everyone to attend the 

Spring 2017 February Cooler

Thursday, February 9th (02/09)

5:00 PM-8:00pm 

At the NFLRC Lanai
(Behind the Center for Korean Studies)

This will be a great chance to:

  • Unwind after a successful first month of the Spring semester
  • Socialize with new students, current students, faculty, and staff of SLS.
  • Eat tasty food and have cold drinks/beer.

Admission is free for SLSSA members, and faculty/staff and their families; $5 for non-members/guests.

Please go to the following link and RSVP.  Your RSVP will help us plan for enough food and beverage in advance.  For directions, please follow the map attached.  It’s only a 1 minute walk from Moore Hall.

This is an announcement to RSVP for semester’s graduation cooler happening the afternoon/evening of Thursday, December 8th!

 2016 SLSSA FALL GRADUATION COOLER

Thursday, December 8th, 2016

4:00PM – 7:00 PM

QLC 412 (4th floor of the Queen Liliuokalani Center)

The graduation cooler is an SLS tradition where we come together to congratulate the students who have earned their degrees, and to celebrate the end of the semester with the SLS ‘ohana.

COST

Free for SLSSA members; free for graduates and their family members; free for faculty, staff, and their families; $5 for guests and non-SLSSA members.

  • FOOD AND DRINK.  Your SLSSA and LSH representatives will provide food and beverages for the event.
  • COSTUME CONTEST. The categories will include scary costumes, homemade costumes, linguistics/SLS pun costumes, couple/group costumes, and “I threw this on at the last minute” costumes.
  • GAMES.  Enjoy Halloween classics such as the doughnut-on-a-string game.
  • PUMPKINS.  Decorate your own pumpkin to take home with you.

We hope you are all having an excellent start to the new semester!  We would like to welcome you all at this time to attend the spectacular, unforgettable, annual SLS Retreat hosted by SLSSA.

This year’s retreat will be held:

Saturday, September 21st at Kapiolani Park (site #5, see attached map)

Registration will open at 9:30 am.

Cost (pre-registerd with RSVP – can pay day of): $5 for SLSSA members, $10 for non-members
(no-RSVP) $15 day of*

RSVP now for a lower price (you can still pay day of – cash or check – but we need numbers to know how much food to order!):

Attached is a schedule of events to follow.  As always, there will be games and activities designed to “break the ice” and introduce everyone.

There will also be a 3 part academic panel with invaluable information shared by our wonderful faculty and program directors on topics including: employment and GAships, socializing into SLS, and a general Q & A session with faculty members.

Finally, there will be a fantastic lunch and the annual auction with creative items and amazing events offered by members of the SLS ohana to raise money for our research and travel funds.

The retreat is a great way for you to meet everyone in the department and for us all to have a good time together outside of the confines of Moore Hall!
