Please join SLSSA in honoring our fellow SLS-ers as they graduate this semester. Dean Bley-Vroman and his wife have kindly opened their home to allow us to celebrate this accomplishment. As a bonus, they’re also going to heat up their hot tub, so remember to bring your bathing suit and a towel!
Join us for delicious pupus, a wide selection of soda and juice, and, of course, good company!

What should you expect?
- FOOD AND DRINK. Your SLSSA and LSH representatives will provide food and beverages for the event.
- COSTUME CONTEST. The categories will include scary costumes, homemade costumes, linguistics/SLS pun costumes, couple/group costumes, and “I threw this on at the last minute” costumes.
- GAMES. Enjoy Halloween classics such as the doughnut-on-a-string game.
- PUMPKINS. Decorate your own pumpkin to take home with you.
Feel free to bring significant others and family members!

We hope you are all having an excellent start to the new semester! We would like to welcome you all at this time to attend the spectacular, unforgettable, annual SLS Retreat hosted by SLSSA.
This year’s retreat will be held:
Saturday, September 21st at Kapiolani Park (site #5, see attached map)
Registration will open at 9:30 am.
Cost (pre-registerd with RSVP – can pay day of): $5 for SLSSA members, $10 for non-members
(no-RSVP) $15 day of*
RSVP now for a lower price (you can still pay day of – cash or check – but we need numbers to know how much food to order!):
Attached is a schedule of events to follow. As always, there will be games and activities designed to “break the ice” and introduce everyone.
There will also be a 3 part academic panel with invaluable information shared by our wonderful faculty and program directors on topics including: employment and GAships, socializing into SLS, and a general Q & A session with faculty members.
Finally, there will be a fantastic lunch and the annual auction with creative items and amazing events offered by members of the SLS ohana to raise money for our research and travel funds.
The retreat is a great way for you to meet everyone in the department and for us all to have a good time together outside of the confines of Moore Hall!
