How To Apply

The application process will vary depending on the program. To get started:

>>> Explore degree programs.

>>> Contact University Center, West Hawai‘i Education Specialist Carrie Kuwada Phipps at or (808) 969-8808 to set up an appointment.

>>> Apply at the campus that offers the program you want.

Submit Health Clearance

The University of Hawai‘i system requires new (newly accepted), returning (re-admitted) and transfer students to complete a health clearance form (TB and MMR clearance) before registering for classes. If this form is not completed and submitted, there will be a hold on your account and you will not be able to register. Please visit the link to your home campus for specific information and a link to the form.

Attend a Degree Preparation Workshop

The University Center offers monthly Degree Preparation Workshops at the Pālamanui campus during the evening. These workshops provide an overview of all degree options (Bachelors, Certificate, Graduate, and Doctorate) available through the Center; career options; potential earning power; methods of program delivery; steps to move forward; key deadlines and more.

Attend Orientation

Each January and August (beginning of spring and fall semesters) University Center offers an orientation for students new to distance learning in any of the UH system programs. The orientation includes an overview of life as a distance learning student, tips for success, resources and support available, hands-on practice with Laulima – which is the online classroom for UH distance learning – and an introduction to the STAR advising system.

The featured guest is Pālamanui Librarian Laurel Gregory, who provides the latest information on print and electronic resources for DL students and demonstrates how to access your new home campus library.

This is an opportunity to meet your fellow students and ask questions about exam proctoring, registration, textbooks and other support services. This session is highly recommended to help you have a great start for your classes your first semester!
