Dr. Lee to lead Imi Ho’ola and Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence

Imi Ho’ola has a new leader with a familiar face, effective January 1, 2011. Dr. Winona Mesiona Lee will serve as the Director and oversee the operations of two key diversity initiatives at the John A. Burns School of Medicine. They are the Imi Ho`ola Post-Baccalaureate Program and the Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence (NHCOE) in the Department of Native Hawaiian Health.

Dr. Lee is a JABSOM graduate and is Board-Certified in Pediatrics. She has been a faculty member of Imi Ho`ola for the past six years, teaching and mentoring Imi Ho’ola and medical students. Imi Ho’ola, for more than three decades, has successfully recruited candidates for medical school from underserved communities. The program has helped graduate more than 200 physicians.

Dr. Lee is a member of Ahahui o na Kauka Association of Native Hawaiian Physicians and American Academy of Pediatrics.
