The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) has a new Director of Graduate Programs: Dr. Mariana Gerschenson.
This position in the Dean’s office will oversee and direct the JABSOM Graduate Student Programs (Master’s and PhD). The major goals include: facilitating effective student recruitment, tracking of student progress, establishing quality measures in the program, and providing a comprehensive review of individual student and program status and progress. Dr. Gerschenson will be advising Graduate Program Chairs, organizing student and faculty orientation/training activities, and serving as a liaison between the various JABSOM Graduate Programs, JABSOM Administration, and the University of Hawai`i at Manoa (UHM) Graduate Division.
Dr. Gerschenson joined the UHM in 2002. She is a tenured Professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at JABSOM.
“Dr. Gerschenson has an impressive background of accomplishments in teaching and research,” said JABSOM Dean Jerris Hedges. “Her skills and experience will be valuable to JABSOM graduate faculty and to the students pursuing their graduate education.”
