Here it is, the latest video public service announcement from the American Heart Association (AHA) to teach CPR “the Alson Inaba way”, using the tune “Stayin’ Alive” from the Bee Gees to keep the proper pace for lifesaving chest compressions. Dr. Inaba, a Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children pediatrician and clinical faculty member at the University of Hawai`i’s medical school, came up with the idea of using the disco-era tune while teaching UH medical students five years ago. For the last two years, the AHA has used the song to promote proper “hands only” CPR technique. Dr. Inaba’s idea has made it easier than ever for people to remember how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
