The school of medicine’s loss is Leeward Community College’s (LCC) gain as Lionel Shigemura starts the next chapter of his University of Hawai`i career with the Pearl City campus led by Leeward’s Chancellor Manny Cabral.
The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Office of Information Technology hosted an ice cream sundae send-off for Lionel on Friday. Lionel has been the medical school’s “go-to” guy as the network engineer overseeing communications devices in our organization, wired and wireless, and the infrastructure which keeps them connected. He leaves a legacy behind here at Kaka`ako in particular. Lionel was instrumental in the build-out and configuration of the Kaka`ako campus networks prior to their opening in 2005, as well as helping to enhance and secure the networks at our satellite health care learning sites for the departments of Geriatric Medicine at Kuakini Medical Center, for OB-GYN and Pediatrics at Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women and Children, for Surgery, Medicine and Psychiatry based out of The Queen’s Medical Center, for Communication Sciences and Disorders and UCERA at 677 Ala Moana, better known as the “Gold Bond Building” and at JABSOM’s center for family medicine in Mililani.
Lionel looks forward to a nearly effortless commute to work, since he lives much closer to LCC than to JABSOM. LCC can look forward to being better connected than ever, with Lionel’s contributions to its campus. Before he came to JABSOM in 2005, Lionel was employed at UH-Manoa working on the JABSOM project.
