It’s heart month and it began with everyone being asked to wear red to increase awareness of heart disease, Hawai`i’s number one killer. Even better, the month also got off to a life-saving start with John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) graduate and faculty member (Surgery and Emergency Medicine) and this year’s President of the Hawai’i Heart Association, Dr. Libby Char stopping by the KHON2 TV studio to demonstrate “Hands-Free CPR”. It’s the “Stayinʻ Alive” technique now known and used worldwide after being created right here at home by Dr. Alson Inaba, another of JABSOM’s stellar faculty (and Kapi`olani Medical Center pediatrician). In fact, Dr. Inaba is profiled in this month’s Costco Connection magazine, too. Way to save lives, University of Hawai`i Mānoa medical school!
