Hear what it’s like to wait for the opening of an envelope to know your fate, as John A. Burns School of Medicine students prepare for Match Day 2013. The interviews, conducted on the eve of “Match Day” 2013, include fouth-year medical students Jaryd Yee, Anne Yoshizawa, Jennifer Thomas and Class President Krista Kiyosaki.
“MATCH DAY” is when 4th year medical students across the country learn where they will begin their careers as MDs under trained supervision. About 31,000 students compete every year for approximately 24,000 post-MD residency positions. The National Resident Matching Program coordinates the “MATCH,” pairing students with training programs by computer, and delivering the information inside envelopes which the students rip open in ceremonies held simultaneously around the country.
