The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) has honored named its 2013 Outstanding Physicians of the Year, and both are alumni and current faculty of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).
Kentaro Nishino, M.D. (JABSOM Geriatrics Fellowship Program, 2003-2005) and Kathleen L. Mah, M.D. (JABSOM MD Class of 1991) were selected as the 2013 Ke Kauka Po`okela Outstanding Physicians of the Year.
In a news release, The Queen’s Medical Center said this annual award recognizes physicians of the QMC medical staff who exemplify high-quality care, professional conduct and outstanding contributions to the medical field.
“We are honored to have ambassadors like Dr. Nishino and Dr. Mah who demonstrate the Queen’s mission of providing excellent patient care to the people of Hawai`i every day,” said Art Ushijima, President of The Queen’s Medical Center. “On behalf of our Queen’s `ohana, we thank Dr. Nishino and Dr. Mah for their stellar service and continued commitment to our communities.”
Dr. Nishino, who received the award for Hospital Based Physician, is a Geriatrician and Hospitalist at The Queen‟s Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and a fellowship in geriatric medicine from JABSOM at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. Dr. Nishino also serves as an assistant clinical professor in the department of geriatrics at JABSOM.
Dr. Mah, who received the award for Community Based Physician, is an Active Staff Member and Medical Director of the Main Operating Room, Same Day Surgery, Urology, at The Queen’s Medical Center. She received her medical degree from JABSOM. Dr. Mah is also an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the University of Hawai`i’s medical school. Congratulations!
