It’s mid-summer, so it’s time to suit up! No, not in the latest swimsuit or board shorts fashions. For the young men and women studying to become physicians at the University of Hawai`i John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), the newest gear includes attire suitable for the surgical suite. Members of the MD Class of 2015 are getting used to snapping on the latex gloves, walking into the surgical gowns, and assisting one another as they navigate the ties at the neck and waist. And as you might imagine, it is not as easy at it sounds!
The Class of 2015 is beginning its third year clerkships, conducted by our faculty all over the State in the medical centers, clinics and MD offices of JABSOM’s training partners. During the next two years they will train in surgery, pediatrics, OB-GYN, family medicine, psychiatry, geriatric medicine and a number of specialties within the school’s Department of Medicine.
