Dean Jerris Hedges, Dr. Larry Burgess (Telehealth Research Institute Director and Professor of Surgery) and Dr. Henry Lew (Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders) served up scores of scoops of ice cream on the Aloha Friday kickoff for “Starting From The Inside Out”–the annual John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Internal Giving Campaign. Even Interim University of Hawai`i President David Lassner, Board of Regents Chairman John Holzman and Provost Linda Johnsrud, stopping by the JABSOM Kūlia Grill for lunch, had a chance to enjoy the fun. Our short video shows just how fast a medical school dean has to be on his feet these days!
The Internal Giving Campaign allows faculty and staff of JABSOM to invest in programs at the school, including medical school scholarships, the Dean’s priority accounts, and any of more than 200 different JABSOM-specific funds. Many of the departments in the school benefit from pledges made by their staff and faculty.
Gifts received between July 1 and December 31, 2013 will count toward the 2013 “Starting From The Inside Out” Campaign. The goal for this year is to raise $180,000 and to engage 300 participants.
Give early to make your pledge go farther
The incentive to give early is enhanced this year by three “Challenge” gifts: a $25,000 Executive Team and Campaign Co-Chair Kick-Off Matching Gift Challenge for all gifts & pledges received by August 30. There is also a $4,000 UH Leadership and Dean’s Participation Gift Challenge which will be allocated evenly among the four funds with the most donors by September 20. And drive co-chair Dr. Larry Burgess will give $1,000 toward the department with 100% participation!
To give on line, go to STARTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
