Fueled with lots of coffee, chocolate and pizza, 29 volunteer second year medical students spent their Sundays on September 8 and 15 connecting with hundreds of alumni in Hawai’i and across the nation during the annual MD Alumni Phonathon.
The calling room buzzed with chatter both days as students and alumni shared stories about dreaded exams, much loved professors and favorite classes. Students were eager to talk with practicing physicians, and alumni were generous with their advice for students about specialties and residency programs.
JABSOM alumni were also generous with their treasure – donating and pledging more than $24,000 over the course of two days to support a wide range of activities and programs at the school. Gifts of $5,201 to the MD Alumni Scholarship fund clearly demonstrate that alumni recognize the crucial role scholarships play – not just in the lives of students – but in the future of JABSOM as well.
The enthusiasm of our student callers expressed the gratitude of all JABSOM medical students who experience the difference alumni generosity makes. Mahalo for taking their calls.
