MAKING NEWS: UH medical school Hyperbaric Treatment Center’s Diabetic “Wound Warriors”

KHON2 News paid a visit to the University of Hawai`i medical school’s Hyperbaric Treatment Center (HTC) to report on the impressive results HTC is having treating stubborn wounds. Among the HTC’s patients are those with diabetes, whose foot wounds resisted other treatment methods.

The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) HTC has 30 years of service to Hawai`i under its belt, privileged these past decades to save the lives of divers stricken with decompression sickness. Now, the treatment center– the only one in Hawai’i accredited by the The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Physicians supervise the treatment, while our trained staff accompany patients inside the oxygen therapy chamber. An added safety buffer comes from the fact that the UH Hyperbaric Treatment Center is attached to Kuakini Medical Center, where additional high-level medical expertise is just down the hall.
