DEAN’S PHOTO ALBUM: Queen Emma’s Birthday

On January 2, Dean Jerris Hedges joined Dr. Marjorie Mau, Mele Look and Pua Cohen of the Department of Native Hawaiian Health along with Kamuela Werner, a graduate assistant for Community Engagement in the department, in presenting a maile lei from the John A. Burns School of Medicine in honor of Queen Emma, wife of Kamehameha IV and founder of The Queen’s Medical Center. The occasion was the commemoration of the 178th birthday of Queen Emma at Mauna Ala, where Emma rests in peace.

The Queen’s Medical Center is home base to the medical school’s departments of medicine, surgery and psychiatry, and an important community training partner for both our medical students and the post-graduate MD “residents” in training at the University of Hawai`i.
