As a strong community contributor, the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Annual Hawai`i Food Bank drive is scheduled for April 7th, Monday to April 17th, Thursday, 2014.
Food donations can be dropped off in the Medical Education Building (MEB) lobby, where there will be a drop-off box located at the Security station. Another method you can give is via monetary donations made to Melia Young, JABSOM’s Special Events Manager, who can be reached at 692-1208 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A third option is an online donation at http://www.hawaiifoodbank.org/donate.aspx. If you are donating online, after you enter your contact information and are entering your payment information, under “Payment Information, comments”, please type in JABSOM so that we can get properly credited for our community participation.
The Hawai`i Food Bank provides food through member agencies to over 183,500 individuals each year. Over 55,000 are children and over 11,000 are our kūpuna, aged 65 and older.
The top five most needed foods are:
- CANNED PROTEINS (meat, tuna, chicken)
- CANNED MEALS (stew, spaghetti, chili)
- CANNED VEGETABLES
- CANNED FOODS
94% of monetary donations go to feed the hungry in Hawaii, while only 3% is spent on management and general expenses and 3% is spent on fundraising.
