VIDEO: A Campus “Wedding” for two MD Sweethearts

By Jeremy Nitta and Amanda Shell, UH Med Student Journalism Students
On May 7, 2014, Drs. Shane Morita and Jaimie Tom, both graduates of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), held celebrated the renewal of their marriage vows on the Kaka`ako campus of the University of Hawai`i medical school. It’s the first “wedding” event held on our campus!

Pastor Elwin Ahu of New Hope Christian Fellowship performed the “remarriage” for the couple, who have been “man and wife” for 16 years. Dr. Morita (from Hilo) and Dr. Tom (from Honolulu) met 20 years ago as medical students at JABSOM. Inspiring Fellow MD Alumni
In addition to expressing how important JABSOM has been to their lives, Morita and Tom also wanted to share their happiness publicly, to inspire alumni to renew their own commitment to JABSOM.

2015 is the 50th Anniversary of JABSOM’s founding. On July 26, 2014, our MD Alumni Reconnect Events happen, with a free Continuing Medical Education session in the morning at JABSOM Kaka`ako, and a fun family party at the Honolulu Zoo from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Alumni, register on-line now at RECONNECT 2014.
