Convocation for the JABSOM MD Class of 2013 is Sunday, May 12, from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at the Kennedy Theatre on the UH Mānoa campus. Convocation gives Hawai`i’s newest MDs a final chance to get together as a class to celebrate, but it’s also much more. The ceremony is always memorable because it includes touching moments in which our students present a maile lei to someone who has been a pillar of support or inspiration during their educational journey, often someone in their family. They also publicly express their “mahalo” to family and friends — and each other — for the kōkua they received through four years of challenging study.

MD Convocation Keynote Speaker
This year, we are honored to have David Sklar, MD, as our Convocation keynote speaker. Dr. Sklar is Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Emergency Medicine and Associate Dean Emeritus, Graduate Medical Education, at the University of New Mexico. He is the Editor in Chief of Academic Medicine–the most highly cited journal covering medical education and health policy. Dr. Sklar has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer reviewed articles in the areas of medical education, patient safety and quality, injury prevention, international health and clinical care. In 2008, he also published a book, La Clinica, concerning international humanitarian work.
