The incoming medical students of the Class of 2016 will be formally welcomed into the study of medicine during a ceremony at the Kaimuki High School Auditorium. During the White Coat Ceremony, the students will recite the Oath of Hippocrates, and–what gives the ceremony its name–be “cloaked” with the short white coats which signify their status as MD students. The keynote address will be by Dr. Jinichi Tokeshi, chosen by the graduating Class of 2012 as the recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Tokeshi was chosen because he exemplifies compassion, competence and respect in the delivery of care.

Our featured photo, from 2011, shows MD student Steven Gonsalves, a graduate of Maui High School, receiving his White Coat.
