HawCC Alumni & Friends Mahalo

The HawCC Alumni & Friends held its first scholarship dinner fundraiser and silent auction on Saturday, November 2.  It was a great social event attended by Mr. Alvin Katahara, Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations and UHAA Executive Director; Ms. Mariko Miho, UH Hilo Development Officer and Nico Verissimo, Director of Alumni Engagement for Hawai‘i Island as well as HawCC alumni, retirees, employees and supporters of Alumni & Friends.

Mahalo to all for making the HawCC Alumni & Friends Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction a great success!

Thank you to all the planning committee members:  Doris Chang (Chair), Grace Funai, Monica Burnett, Tammy Tanaka, Anne Chung, Kanani Yamada, Gwen Kimura, Noreen Yamane, Sandy Claveria, Roberta Brashear-Kaulfers, Barbara Arthurs, Renee Dela Cruz, Leanne Urasaki, Joel Tanabe, Gene Harada, Allan Okuda, and Bobby Yamane.

Mahalo to Chef Allan Okuda, the East Hawai‘i culinary staff and students for preparing an excellent menu.  This event provided a great opportunity for the culinary students to experience food preparation for fine dining outside of the normal classroom instruction.

Thank you to Bill Affonso and the Planning, Operations & Maintenance staff for assisting with the set-up.

Thank you to our performers Billy Rodrigues-Kaiwa, Norman Arancon and Clayton Kua for providing the entertainment for the evening.  Kudos also to Neal Uehara for providing media assistance and Sandra Claveria for being a gracious emcee.

We extend our gratitude to Gene Harada for the donation of several koa items, Darrell Miyashiro for the donation of the stainless steel hibachi, Joel Tanabe for the wooden stools and many others who gave so generously.  Because of your donations, participation and support, we far surpassed our fundraising goal and raised over $9,000 for student scholarships.

We’d like to share some of the photos of the event thanks to our photographer Marsha Okajima (see link below).
