Haʻakūmalae announcements

Haʻakūmalae is the official orchestration of the Hawaiʻi protocols leadership at Hawaiʻi Community College and the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. As an active member at our Hawaiʻi Community College and in the Hawaiʻi Island Community there are many opportunities and events for engagement in these activities.

Community College Leadership Champions 2013 Visit

A kīpaepae welina was held to welcome the Community College Leadership Champions to our Hawaiʻi Community College Campus and to spend the day viewing our programs, participating in cultural workshops and conversing with Administration, Faculty and Staff alike.  The mission of the University of Hawai’i Community Colleges Leadership Champions (CCLC) is to identify, encourage, develop, and support the next generation of community college leadership. Each year one representative is selected from each of the seven community colleges to participate in a series of sessions designed to help individuals be leaders in the UH CC system.

Hawaiʻi Life Styles Program Annual Fall Hōʻike 2013

As a culmination of the Fall semester the Hawaiʻi Life Styles (HLS) Program hosts an annual Fall Hōʻike for their students enrolled in HLS courses. This opportunity is presented for students to gather and share their learning with family, friends, faculty, & staff. This years Hō’ike was held on Thursday, December 12th, 2013.

New Building Blessing: UHH Hale ʻŌlelo

The new building for the College of Hawaiian Language, Hale ʻŌlelo of Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikolani, was ceremoniously opened for the new year on this auspicious Saturday. Members from many schools, organizations, and supportive groups were on hand to share in the celebration. Included in the festivities were the members of our very own Unukupukupu represented by the select cohort know as the Unuolehua.

Kīpaepae Welina Spring 2014

Students were warmly invited into the upcoming Fall 2014 semester with a Kīpaepae Welina (Welcoming Ceremony). An event to mark the beginning of our Spring 2014 Semester here at Hawaiʻi Community College this Kīpaepae was held at noon on the first day of instruction.

Kīpaepae Welina: University of Sasketchewan

A Kīpaepae Welina for the University of Saskatchewan, Canada was held on this Monday. They visited various schools and sites in Hilo during the morning and spent the afternoon on the Hawaiʻi Community College campus hosted by the Hawaiʻi Life Styles Program.

Kīpaepae Welina Chancellorʻs Secretary Luncheon

Every year the Annual Chancellor’s Secretary Luncheon is hosted by one of the Community College Campuses. This year Hawai’i Community College will be host to this event. The Secretaries will be greeted with a kīpaepae welina and hosted in a kīhei workshop immediately thereafter. Please join us this day to greet these wonderful individuals as we honor their work, spirit and respective campuses.

Volcano Art Center: Unukupukupu Pā Hula Presentation

Through the continued commitment of the Kukuʻena of Unukupukupu, our faculty, staff and students will be presenting a selection from the Unukupukupu repertoire at this Saturday event. The event will be held at 10:30 am at Hawaiʻi Volcano Arts Center Pā Hula located at the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

Aloha Kanaloa Cultural Festival

A community event held at Moku Ola, this Cultural Festival will celebrate and honor our connection with Kanaloa. A free event that is open to the public, our own community bridging/connections will be represented by the Unuiti through their demonstrated proficiency of the Palaoa repertoire of Unukupukupu.

HawCC Day

This will be an event that will celebrate all our campus has to offer through showcasing of programs, tours on campus and activities through the day. This event will be punctuated with two kīpaepae to honor and welcome all those whom will be visiting this day. Kīpaepae will be hosted at 8:30am and 12noon. We hope to see you all that day!

IUCN Hawaiʻi Island Visit

The International Union on Conservation site visit team will be hosted on our island of Hawaiʻi. This team is on island to experience future sites for the upcoming World Conservation Congress. As a result of Dr. Taupōuri Tangarōʻs invitation to present at the World Conservation Congress 2012 in Jeju, Korea this visit will come full circle with the inclusion of cultural protocols reflected in his presentation then as to be manifested here on our home landscape.
