Faculty members travel to Ireland for Study Abroad Familiarization trip

P1010179Hawai’i CC faculty members Pamela Scheffler (Math & Natural Science and TEAM), Carrie Mospens (English and ESL) and Roberta Brashears-Kaulfer (Math & Natural Science) traveled to Ireland to participate in a Study Abroad Familiarization trip from October 9-14, 2014. Under the direction of the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland (http://isaireland.com/), they lived and worked with 20 other faculty and administrators from ten college and universities across the US. They explored cultural and biological sites in Dublin and across the northwestern county of Donegal.

Scheffler and Mospens are currently working together to create a “Culture and Ecology of Islands” Learning Community which would introduce students to the similarities and differences between our two “emerald” isles in regards to culture, language and environment. They plan to teach the course in 2016 and run the first faculty-led study abroad to Ireland in early summer 2016.
