Ceramics lecturer wins awards at two art shows

Hawai‘i Community College Ceramics Lecturer Monika Mann won the Juror’s Choice Award in August’s “ABSTRACT ONLY” show at the Wailoa Arts & Cultural Center for her piece titled “Shelter Me.” (Bottom photo; Acrylic paint on plexiglas)

At the “Hawai‘i Nei” show, also at the Wailoa Arts & Cultural Center in November, she also received the Juror’s Choice Award for her plaster relief with sumi ink (top photo).

This juried show celebrated the native species of Hawai‘i. The piece is called: “Dusk or dawn for the ‘Alala?”

It depicts the remaining 117 native Hawaiian ravens in captivity; they are extinct in the wild.

Congratulations, Monika!
